This view of The Albert Docks has been captured by our photographer Bob Baxter. The Albert Docks was originally opened in 1846 by Prince Albert. The group of warehouses that stretch for seven acres were used to store the cargo of trade ships such as tea and tobacco. After years of neglect the docks were finally closed in 1972 to be left to disintegrate during the rest of the 1970's. However, after the catalytic events of the Toxteth Riots, Michael Heseltine and the MDC (Merseyside Development Corporation) made funding available to regenerate the docks and they were reopened during the 1980's. Today The Albert Docks is home to galleries, museums, shops, cafés, offices and apartments.
